Occasionally in life you stumble across someone who’s been doing the same thing as you all along.  You then kill that person and hope that the vultures eat them before anyone finds out.  For GetJazzical, Nonclassical is that person… Only kidding folks, we have nothing but LOVE in our collective heart (which looks a little like a ying-yang symbol with Olly’s oily black half pervasively oozing hate and mistrust into Alasdair’s pure white and crisp soul) and  we are major fans of what they’re doing.

And ‘they’ are a group founded by composer Gabriel Prokofiev in 2003 and they are nothing if not diverse.  Under the Nonclassical umbrella is a record label, club nights and a small legion of like-minded DJs,mixologists and classically trained musicians looking to change the way Classical music is thought of.  The do this by having live Classical music mixed up by top London DJs in a pub or club.

Here at GetJazzical we feel a kinship with the boys & girls of Nonclassical – we both think that classical is just another genre to be enjoyed however you want – there shouldn’t be rules, dress codes or pretension added as footnotes to the high notes.  We’ve already played them, and you’ll be hearing much more about Nonclassical very shortly.  But for now put this in your diary:

You know those guys who want to be Olympic cyclists but just can’t be bothered with the early mornings, incessant Weetbix eating and chafed nether regions?  You know how they placate their unfulfilled ambitions by buying the latest, greatest and shiniest gear they can find?  They get the bike hand-tuned by a little old man who lives in Belgium,  lights so bright they could dazzle the sun and the kind of figure-hugging attire generally only seen in the kind of films favoured by the Home Secretary’s husband?

Well we’re not exactly that guy, but we did drop a few pennies on some very Gucci kit since Episode Two.  GetJazzical now has the knobs, wires and pop-guards needed to bring you, our discerning listener, the aural experience you deserve.  So… yeah it should sound better now, ok?

This week we’ve got the body-rocking Bad Ass Brass, the ensemble Present Music, the cool Lisa Cay Miller, some dude called ‘Count Basie‘ or something and the electro-fusion Telegraph Melts.  Get some.
